Women-Owned Businesses We Love – Part II

Posted by on

March 8 is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate, honor, and further encourage the depth and tenacity of womanhood. As a company owned and operated by women, we love honoring other trailblazing women who are making an impact in the beauty and lifestyle industries. In 2020, we featured our favorite women-owned business here on the blog, and now we get to add to the list. We’re excited to feature these women-owned businesses below. Show them your love and support!

MamaToTo, founded by Aza

Mamatoto Village is devoted to serving Black women through the creation of career pathways in maternal health, and providing accessible perinatal support services to help womxn make the most informed decisions in their maternity care, parenting, and lives. Certified Professional Midwife and Family Counselor Aza Nedhari is the visionary behind the non-profit. This mother of three has more than 15 years of experience in community organizing, reproductive health education, and program management and development, and is a doctoral student in Human Services - Organizational Leadership and Management. Thank you for all you do in health equality!

Hairitage By Mindy

Hairitage is a line of hair products created for all hair types and derived from natural  ingredients. This hair care brand evolved from Mindy McKnight's, “Cute Girls Hairstyles” channel on Youtube, which started as an educational tool for moms in her small town. Because Mindy was willing to be transparent about her struggles with dealing with the different hair textures and needs of her children — some of whom are adopted — her platform has evolved into one of the most trusted sources for all things hair care. In her company’s first year they did $30 million+ in sales, and she is continuing to work on ways to diversify and add to her media empire.

Black Girls Smoke & UNreFYND, founded by Vic Styles

Vic Styles’ cannabis-friendly campaign, Black Girls Smoke, is dedicated to erasing stigmas, color lines, and gender biases in the marijuana industry, while her clothing brand, UNreFYND, offers authentic, ethically-sourced goods drawn and inspired from cultures around the world. Along with her businesses, Vic advocates for all things clean living, beauty, fashion, and wellness, and she co-hosts the Kontent Queens podcast, an educational platform for aspiring content creators and influencers. We’re inspired by her carefree approach to life, and a willing heart to live unapologetically.

Honored Intuition, founded by Ashanique Nelson

This Los Angeles-based intuitive lifestyle wellness community is committed to providing practical tools and soulful guidance to promote living in alignment with your body and honoring your intuition. The founder is Ashanique Nelson, a master's level therapist with an undergraduate degree in Legal Studies and Feminist Studies and a Master's Degree in Social Work from USC. She lives in Washington, DC, where she serves as a Psychiatric Social Worker and doula. You’ve seen her on our Instagram before, leading rejuvenating meditation sessions for the Rooted Woman Community.
